What Beck learned from Al
I was never formally tutored by Al, but he transmitted an optimism to me. That side of the family is very industrious and has a lot of spirit. And although Al went through some unbelievable things, he kept pushing on. The most valuable thing I learned from him was a certain work ethic, and to be persistent in what you're doing. Al tooled away making art for decades, and there were never any trumpets blaring.
