In the April 11 issue of Rolling Stone, Odelay is #27 of "The 50 Coolest Records":
Beck and the Dust Brothers get crazy with the Cheez Whiz, mixing hip-hop and rock and samba and acoustic folk.
Sounds like: Funky channel-surfing slop, with Beck rocking the beats from the jigsaw jazz to the get-fresh flow.
Best song: "Jackass," a beautiful ballad that builds into a strange invitation.
In the "Life" special,
Rock & Roll at 50, Beck is # 95 of the "Top 100 Rock & Rollers of All Time":
Beck Hansen hails from La La Land and a La La upbringing--his mom was in the punk band Black Flag and his dad was a street musician. This shows in his music, which is often fun, always fresh. The masterpiece is
Odelay (1996), one of the greatest albums of the decade, with sounds, samples, soul singing and every flight of fancy imaginable. It is alt-art-rock at its zenith and shows that Beck is built to last.
[ note: I think they meant Black Fag, since Black Flag is kind of
a whole different band. And Bjork was number 94. :) ]

There's a picture of Beck and Thom Yorke from the RAC concert in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly with Alan Jackson on the cover. Beck has a few quotes in the article, which can be found
here:
"This isn't disgruntled, bitter musicians who have nothing better to do," says RAC member Beck. "This is just getting to the point where we've seeen enough, where it's unconscionable not to speak up--it's a point of integrity."
"From what I know, Don Henley and Sheryl Crow put out hundreds of thousands of dollars out of their own pocket," says Beck. "To get bills written, it costs a lot of f---in' money. I don't know if you've been to the headquarters of any of the five multinational record companies, but their offices look a hell of a lot better than my house. We have a mighty giant to contend with."

Beck is mentioned on
this page about the Grammy awards.
Beck (seen practically begging an overzealous fan to let him return to his friends), Bonnie Raitt, Coldplay, Evan and Jaron, Everclear's Art Alexakis, Collective Soul's Dean Roland and Shane Evans, Dr. John, Stone Temple Pilots's Eric Kretz, Alyssa Milano, Tara Reid, and Simon Rex were also seen enjoying the tunes spun by DJ Miguel Migs and the cookout-themed food selection of burgers, fries, pizza, chicken fingers, and homemade mac and cheese.
